2024-2025 Theme:
Sudden Song
Submissions are open until January 18th!
About the Theme
When we were looking for inspiration for this year's title and theme, we spent a lot of time combing through old issues of the Wineskin. We came across a poem in one of the first issues of the journal. It was written by musician and composer (and the editor of the Wineskin at that time) David Nevue and called "Implosion (for Solo Piano)." One line in particular caught our attention: "Soon comes a sudden song / Thrown up through fingertips."
We are using the phrase "Sudden Song" as the title and theme for this school year's issue. When we discussed different ways it could be interpreted, it brought to mind images of creation, hope, and spontaneity, among many other things. We also thought it would be a neat homage to the legacy of the Wineskin, as this is its 40th anniversary.
We look forward to seeing your takes on sudden song!
